Thompson's a long shot. The Racine Journal-Times, Racine, Wisconsin. Published Opinion. May 10, 2002. This year's gubernatorial is a David vs. Goliath matchup. The incumbent warrior career politicians (Scott McCallum and the Democratic nominees for governor) will be matched up against a long shot (Ed Thompson) candidate. Just as the towering Goliath terrorized whole armies with his size and strength, the politicians of the incumbent Party have overpowered our state with bureaucracy and waste. Ed Thompson, Libertarian for governor and former mayor of Tomah, is a breath of fresh, clean air in a climate polluted by corruption. Ed has the courage to stand up to those in Washington, D.C. You know, the bureaucrats in Washington who blackmailed Wisconsin legislators into creating the ineffective 21-year drinking age and the 18-year old voting age. Now the same federal bureaucrats have decided that the legal limit for drunk driving must be .08 percent nationwide and they don't want to leave it up to state legislatures to vote on it. (Legislators might point out that very few drivers at .08 percent are involved in the accidents they want to prevent!) They threaten to withhold more federal highway funding if Wisconsin and other states don't fall in line. Ed Thompson will stand up and say, "No!" No to the blackmail, no to the bureaucracy, and no to the control. Ed Thompson is the only political candidate who has the courage to say no. Load that slingshot, Ed Thompson. Take careful aim: Goliath is standing there waiting to be felled. It's time we take back our government, our state, and our lives from those who wish to control them. If you want change, make change inevitable: Vote Thompson: www.EdThompson.com Aaron Biterman Brookfield |
