LIBERTARIAN PARTY OF WISCONSIN, INC. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING Madison, Wisconsin – July 22, 2001 Preliminary MINUTES This EXCOM meeting was held at Jingles, 232 E. Olin Ave, in Madison, Wisconsin. Called to order at approximately 12:20PM by State Chair Bob Collison. Members Present: Bob Collison – Chair, Tim Peterson – Vice-chair, Jim Sewell – Secretary, Nick Piergrosi – At Large, Tom Ender – 2nd District, Carl Schoen – 3rd District, Mike McKenna – 5th, Dave Snyder – 6th District, Paul Ehlers – 7th, Herman Tolleraar – 8th District, Bob Schramm – 9th District. Guests: Josh Thompson, Joey Ender, Julie Cordry, about 1:42 pm Rolf Lingren arrived, about 1:56 pm Darren Powers arrived. Secretary’s Report: Went over latest membership numbers. Discussion of the website, calling of lapsed members – phone lines not being used much in office. Treasurer’s Report: Bob Collison gave report in lieu of Melissa Neitman. $3439 in checking, $246 in savings with $1000 owed to savings. Credit card charges are working again – just did the ones that were waiting. The Elections Board report was recently filed. Raised $9800 so far this year, and $2800 for the raffle so far. Chair’s Report: Farm Progress days soon – the party paid for a booth there. Talked about controversies in the National office – Perry Willis corruption, Treasurer and Vice Chair resigning. Tim Peterson brought up Eris Society meeting where Bill Bradford of Liberty magazine and Harry Browne will discuss controversies. Tom Ender moved with Tim Peterson seconding to accept the Secretary’s and Treasurer’s reports. Passed 10 – yea, 0 – nay, 0 – NOA. Break for lunch: Started at 12:53pm Returned to Chair’s report: about 1:17pm. Green Bay affiliate: LPWI gave the Liberty award to Brown County Taxpayers association and the Voice of Freedom award to Bill Lumaye. The Brown County Taxpayers association recently did a petition to reaffirm the Bill of Rights – only 17 of 200 persons asked to sign it recognized it as the Bill of Rights – got some publicity out of this. They are also opposing a local business curfew ordinance. District Reports: 1st: No report. 2nd: Tom Ender spoke about Ed Thompson booth in Neilsville, the Dane County picnic August 5th, and 30 people on email list on the UW campus. 3rd: Carl Schoen talked about holding monthly meetings at a local mall, 4 people attending on average. Gun and Northern Wisconsin State Fair coming up – planing on having booths. 4th: No report. 5th: Mike McKenna talked about the Greenfield parade – Tim Peterson had a car with banner and people handing out literature. Talked about recruiting volunteers for State Fair. 6th: Dave Snyder talked about networking with other groups – possibly the John Birch Society. 7th: Paul Ehlers talked about having a car in 4th of July parade with name and phone # on signs. Smart growth and zoning are big issues – a local potato farmer spoke at a local meeting about how if the proposed ordinances were in effect he wouldn’t have been able to create his farm. They are proposing to outlaw people camping on their own land. Onieda County fair soon – booth? Creating own web site – plan to post government meeting information. 8th: Herman Tollenaar mentioned the Green Bay affiliate – Chair already talked about. 9th: Picnic September 1st at Tim Peterson’s house. Bob Schramm talked about the State newsletter – it has been late, and missing news. Tom Ender didn’t like unattributed story which tried creating controversy where there was none. Bob Collison asked for voluneteers to proofread. Tom Ender moved with Nick P seconding to accept Chairs’s and District reports. Passed. Old Business: Bob Schramm talked about having a Bill of Rights petition at State Fair. Paul Ehlers moved with Bob Schramm seconding to table setting the boundaries of the Green Bay affiliate. Passed. Ed Thompson Campaign: Working on building a coalition of like-minded groups. Working on filling the slate of candidates to aid his campaign. There has been some discussion of working with the Constitution Party to divide ballot offices. Ed Frami offered Bob Collison that if we would not run a candidate for Secretary of State, then they wouldn’t run anyone for governor. Bob Collison told him he couldn’t control candidates. State Fair: August 2nd – 12th. Raffle tickets due by the 12th. Paid Director: Incentive for recruiting new members (pay a percentage of dues). Discussion about if the party had one, it would be a benefit to the Thompson campaign. Legislative caucus: Tom Ender moved with Jim Sewell seconding for the party to issue a resolution for LPWI to denounce the breaking of the law by the caucuses. Break: Started 2:20pm, returned 2:40pm. Legislative caucus continued: Discussed how the Caucuses use tax money for campaigning. The Wisconsin State Journal ran an exposé 2 months ago. The Caucuses budget is $4 million per year. The Republican secretary spilled information that exposed the illegal activity. Investigations are taking place. Talked about using the fact that if Ed Thompson received 10% or more of the vote next year that LPWI would pick a member to the Elections Board. Rolf Lingdgren offered to do footwork to file complaints with the State and Federal governments – LPWI can show that we have been harmed by the illegal activity – have better standing than other organizations (Wisconsin Democracy, Common Cause). Tim Peterson offered an amendment to ask Rolf to file complaints with appropriate authorities for Bob Collison to submit. Seconded by Paul Ehlers. Passed 11 – yea, 0 – nay, 0 – NOA. Motion as amended passed. Convention 2002: Tom Ender proposes the Tomah area or the Dells. Mike Riley may pay for a high profile speaker. Dane County members and Julie Cordry to spearhead. Talked about expanding to one and a half days. Next Meeting: October 28th in the Dells area, Julie Cordry to set up. Party Building: Tim Peterson talked about each EXCOM member holding monthly meetings in their district – make if fun. Tom Ender said that the local parties should spearhead issues – do something to get people active. Adjournment: At approximately 3:28pm Tom Ender moved to adjourn. Seconded by Bob Schramm. Passed unanimously. |
