Working on cleaning up problems in the office – recently passed restrictions on Perry Willis and associates for his violation of party policy. Mentioned that National members can opt out of numerous fundraising letters by requesting “no mail” service. Returned to Chair’s report: about 1:38pm. Bob noted that Ed was planning on making a formal announcement of his candidacy in November with a nine-city tour. Ed decided to not run for mayor this spring, he is going to concentrate on running for governor. Tim Peterson mentioned that Libertarians should start finding speaking engagements for Ed – talk to organizations we are members of and try to get speaking engagements. Vernie Kuglin mentioned that it would be good to get Ed to speak to church ministerial associations. Jim Maas asked how Ed felt about the National Guard in airports. He made up signs that he would try to get press coverage for if Ed agreed with them. Bob Collision would ask Ed. Tim Peterson asked about the LPWI doing statewide press releases. Bob Collison said that Ron Emery used to send some out periodically but the media list is probably out of date. Tim said that he could get an updated list from Sue Fisher. Tim Peterson also asked about how many members the party had email addresses for. Paul Ehlers stated that he sent Eric Christenson (Orkin) the web site for LPNC, but nothing has been done so far (six months have elasped). Bob said he will talk to Orkin to see what is going on. Ben continued – looking into renting a booth either on stadium property or offsite parking. Working with Bill Lumaye and Mike Riley on direct legislation referendum on overnight parking on street, and advisory petition on all age venues at bars with liquor locked up. Ben asked Tom Ender to write about the essay contest on the LPWI forum so other affiliates could get ideas from it. Herman Tollenar noted that the meeting location was changing to the Attic Bookstore from Galliger’s restaurant. 9th: Tim Peterson talked about monthly meetings at his place, mentioned that he went with Ed Thompson to the homecoming parade in Madison, with Ed’s son Josh helping organize – it was very successful. 2:25PM Break: Back at about 2:45PM State Convention 2002: Julie Cordry looked into dates and area to hold. Thought that Madison or Milwaukee would be better – major media may cover it. Try to avoid spring breaks and vacations: March 16- April 7 bad. April 15? End of April best? Patriots day the 19th banquet with convention Saturday? Candidates school? Budget? Hold fundraiser at end? Hold at Concorse in Madison? Bob Collison to talk to Mike Riley to help fund a nice speaker. National Convention: July 3rd – 7th. Try signing up as many National members to get larger allocation of delegates. Liberty Award: Paul Ehlers: Taxpayers for Fair Zoning. Julie Cordry: Senator Russ Feingold for civil rights stand. Ben Malliet: suggested that people post nominees to forum and/or to EXCOM members. Spring and Fall Elections 2002: Tim Peterson said that he knows of three people who were thinking of running: LeRoy Watson, Don Haus, and Sandy Glowdowski. Bob Collison said that the party should work to fill the ballot under Ed to help him out; that we need a campaign coordinator. Next Meeting: January 27th in the Wausau area. Jim Maas to set up. NorthEast affiliate: With the North Country affiliate’s approval, decided to move Outagamie county to the Northeast affiliate. Fund Raisers: Attempt to raise money outside of party. John Bailey suggested a calendar raffle – the tavern league is successful with it. We could put Libertarian propaganda on it. Adjournment: At approximately 3:40pm Paul Ehlers moved to adjourn. Seconded by Carl Schoen. Passed unanimously. |
